Mark King is leaving Lincoln Southwest as football coach to become athletic director at Elkhorn and Mike Berens is retiring as football coach at Omaha Roncalli after 31 seasons.

King started the program at Southwest in 2002 and compiled an 87-63 record in 14 seasons. The Silver Hawks lost to Millard North in the 2005 Class A final after starting the season 12-0.

His record, including stops at Ord and Lincoln Northeast, is 160-124. He will replace Mike Zeplin as the Antlers’ athletic director.

Berens, who will continue at Roncalli as a teacher, had a career record of 169-152, including 141-147 at Roncalli. The Crimson Pride made the Class B state finals in 2003, losing to McCook.

Berens came to Roncalli from Humphrey St. Francis.
