As you peruse the latest World-Herald western Iowa boys basketball ratings, which feature new No. 1s Sioux City East (Class 4-A/3-A) and Treynor (2-A/1-A), take a quick look at the conference races:

East (7-1) leads the Missouri River Conference, with Sioux City Heelan (5-2) and Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln (5-2) its top threats. East notched a big win last Thursday, edging Heelan 58-57 behind 23 points from Aidan Vanderloo.

In the Hawkeye Ten Conference, Glenwood has the inside track at 7-1 with only Clarinda (1-6) and Denison-Schleswig (3-3) remaining. Should the Rams stumble, Harlan (6-2) and Council Bluffs St. Albert (5-2) are still in contention.

Treynor (13-0) has been the class of the Western Iowa Conference, while Logan-Magnolia (8-4), Tri-Center (8-4), AHSTW (7-5), Underwood (7-5), IKM-Manning (7-5) and Audubon (7-6) appear to be in a scrum for second place.

In the Rolling Valley, Boyer Valley (10-0) has a two-game lead on Ar-We-Va (8-2) and three games on CAM (7-3) with six to play.

Stanton leads the Corner Conference at 8-0, and it also claimed the league tournament Saturday with a 73-66 win over Sidney in the championship game. Junior Drake Johnson led four Vikings in double figures with 22 points.

In the 12-team Pride of Iowa, Bedford (10-1) leads Central Decatur (9-2) and Mount Ayr (8-2) entering the home stretch. The league has a 16-game schedule, with schools facing division opponents twice and nondivision foes once.

Also from The World-Herald’s coverage area, OA-BCIG (7-2) finished in a tie for second in the Western Valley behind champion Kingsley-Pierson (8-1).

District assignments

The Iowa High School Athletic Association recently released its 1-A and 2-A district assignments. In a change starting last season, coaches will seed their own districts. This year’s 1-A and 2-A seeding meetings will be Jan. 31.

For 3-A and 4-A schools, postseason assignments are expected to be announced Friday, with seeding meetings set for Feb. 7.

Here are the assignments for 1-A and 2-A districts involving schools in The World-Herald’s western Iowa coverage area:

Substate 7, District 13: Bedford, Clarinda Academy, Diagonal, Essex, Lenox, Nodaway Valley, Orient-Macksburg, Sidney, Southwest Valley.

Substate 7, District 14: CAM, CB Heartland Christian, CB St. Albert, East Mills, Fremont-Mills, Griswold, Riverside, Stanton.

Substate 8, District 15: Ar-We-Va, Audubon, Boyer Valley, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Glidden-Ralston, IKM-Manning, Paton-Churdan, Tri-Center, Woodbine.

Substate, District 16: Kingsley-Pierson, Remsen St. Mary’s, Ridge View, River Valley, West Harrison, West Monona, Westwood, Whiting, Woodbury Central.

Class 2-A

Substate 1, District 1: Carroll Kuemper, East Sac County, Logan-Magnolia, Missouri Valley, MVAOCOU, OA-BCIG.

Substate 1, District 2: Hinton, Hull Western Christian, Orange City Unity Christian, Rock Valley, West Lyon, West Sioux.
