UTICA – The second quarter was the story of the game for the Exeter-Milligan Timberwolves in Tuesday nights Class D2-2 girls game at Centennial High School.
After trailing most of the first quarter to the No. 4 seed Dorchester Longhorns, the T-Wolves exploded on a 27-2 run and held on late to post the 51-41 win to advance to Thursday night's final at 7 p.m.
Two quick baskets from sophomore Hannah Beethe, a steal and basket from senior Marissa Howard and another steal, basket and 3-pointer from Kelsey Bigelow, turned an 11-10 T-Wolves first quarter lead into a 22-10 advantage with 4:59 to play in the first half.
The Timberwolves' Beethe added another basket, before two free throws by Avery Behrens with 4:10 to play broke a 19-0 E-M run.
The Timberwolves were 12-of-17 from the field in the second quarter and on four of their five misses grabbed offensive rebounds and scored to lead 38-12 at the break.
They also took advantage of seven Longhorns turnovers.
The teams each scored 12 third quarter points as the E-M girls maintained their 26-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The Longhorns would go on a 15-0 run to cut the T-Wolves' lead to 50-39 with 1:30 to play, but that would be as close as they would get.

Bigelow led the E-M girls with 14 and Beethe added 13 while Howard chipped in with eight points.
