FAIRFIELD – The Heartland Huskie girls basketball team’s stay in the Southern Nebraska Conference Tournament came to an end on Thursday night at Sandy Creek High School.

The host Cougars wasted little time establishing dominance as they led 19-6 at the end of the first quarter and went on to post the 44-25 win to advance to last night’s semifinals.

Sandy Creek (9-9) led 32-9 at the break and 39-12 through three quarters before the reserves took over in the fourth.

Heartland (7-12) won the fourth quarter 13-5, but the game had been decided long before then.

The Cougars were led in scoring by Rylee Morris and Addison Kuta with eight points each, while tossing in six points apiece were Sadie Svoboda and Erika Harms.

SC was 19-of-48 from the field, hit 1-of-7 attempts from behind the 3-point arc and struggled at the line with just 5-of-20 free throws dropping through the string.

No individual or team stats were provided for the Heartland Huskies.

Heartland will host the Deshler Dragons on Tuesday night.

Heartland (7-12) 6 3 3 13- 25

Sandy Creek (9-9) 19 13 7 5- 44
