YORK — After free throws by Lexington’s Caleb Carpenter drew the Lexington Minutemen even with the No. 2 York Dukes at 42-42 with 5:56 to play in the game, Duke senior Brady Danielson took over.

Danielson scored eight of his game high 26 points in the fourth quarter as York survived a Lexington second half rally to post the 58-50 win in Class B boys’ basketball Saturday night.

Carpenter’s free throw capped a Lexington run of 22-7, which wiped out the Dukes’ 35-20 halftime lead.

York and Lexington had battled on even terms the first eight minutes with York holding a 15-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

The Dukes’ owned the second quarter as they were 8 of 9 from the field and that included 4 of 4 from 3-point range.

Danielson and senior Garrett Snodgrass was the only two Duke’s in double figures as Snodgrass finished with 16. The two combined for 15 of York’s fourth quarter points.

“I told the guys at halftime, if they get the lead down to 10, you are going to have a fight on your hands,” said York head coach Scott Lamberty. “They started to hit some shots, we missed and you look up and the game is tied.”

“I’m happy that Brady Danielson plays on our team, because he just took over in the fourth quarter and he’s just so tough to defend, and he can create so much for us,”Lamberty added.

During the Minutemen’s 18-6 third quarter run, they were led by leading scorer Nick Saiz who scored five of his team high 20 points and Dylan Richman finished with eight.

York was 20 of 37 from the field, they knocked down 6 of 12 3-point attempts and in the fourth quarter alone they were 8 of 17 from the charity stripe and overall 12 of 24.

Lexington finished 19 of 51, 6 of 14 from behind the 3-point arc and 6 of 8 at the free throw line.

York held a slight 29-28 advantage on the glass.
