Mutual of Omaha

Mutual of Omaha is selling the Element Omaha hotel at 33rd and Farnam Streets, taking advantage of a hot market for hotels among investment buyers.

James Blackledge, chief executive of Mutual, said Wednesday that a potential buyer had made an offer, so the insurance company put the 132-room hotel, which opened in 2010, on the market about a month ago.

Since then, more than 100 potential buyers have signed agreements allowing them to look at the hotel’s finances and consider bids, he said. The hotel might bring $20 million.

Blackledge said the timing of the sale isn’t related to plans for a new headquarters but rather because of the potential for a good sale price, which would add to the assets that back up Mutual’s insurance business.
