Union Pacific Railroad Chairman Jim Young is being honored by both major railroad trade magazines.
Railway Age magazine named Young its railroader of the year for 2012, and Progressive Railroading called Young its railroad innovator of 2012.
Young was U.P.'s top executive from 2006 until last March when he announced he was battling pancreatic cancer. Young stepped down as president and CEO after his diagnosis, but a railroad spokesman said Thursday that Young has remained active as chairman of the railroad's board.
