Jones Bros. Cupcakes will open a new shop in Westroads Mall this summer.

The shop will serve cupcakes, French macarons, ice cream, gelato, malts and shakes. It will be part of a new casual seating area within Westroads just across from Flagship Commons.

The lounging area and cupcake shop is expected to open by August, said Jim Sadler, Westroads senior general manager.

Sadler said the space, formerly four retail bays, is intended to be an extension of Flagship Commons, the mall’s food hall that opened about a year and a half ago. The lounging area will feature various options for seating, a shuffleboard table and other games.

Auntie Anne’s Pretzels also will have a counter within the space. The area will be open to both sides of the mall, making Flagship Commons more visible for shoppers, Sadler said.

The design is new for General Growth Properties, Sadler said. General Growth owns Westroads and Oak View Mall.

“This is one of the first of these concepts that will be in our portfolio for General Growth, so we’re excited to see how it’s received by the public,” Sadler said.

Bill Jones, co-owner of locally owned Jones Bros., said he expects to hire 10 to 12 people to staff the new store. Jones Bros. also operates one store in Aksarben Village and one near 180th Street and West Center Road.
