Omaha-based HDR has broken into the Top 10 of largest design firms, according to the Engineering News-Record annual rankings.

This is the first time the architectural and engineering company has made it that high, having been No. 11 among design firms for the last five years.

HDR’s No. 9 rank was announced in a 50th anniversary issue this month and is based on annual revenue. HDR’s 2014 design revenue was reported at $1.8 billion.

George Little, chairman and CEO, said the ranking reflects continued growth that includes recent acquisitions of the Tennessee-based Infrastructure Corp. of America and the asset purchase of Georgia-based MEI. “We’re very excited,” Little said.

ENR is a weekly magazine providing news and analysis for the construction industry worldwide, as well as annual rankings of the largest contractors and design firms.
