A Florida teacher jumped at the chance to attend her first Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting when she noticed a hole in her busy schedule.
“My sister comes every year,” said Kelley Zenchuk of New Port Richey. “I’ve been a shareholder for five years, but the meeting usually falls on days that we have testing and I can’t get away. This year, it worked out.”
Zenchuk and her sister, Diane Zenchuk of Omaha, sat outside Borsheims at 120 Regency Parkway on Sunday. Kelley was wearing a Nebraska Strong T-shirt that her sister had bought for her as they reviewed the weekend.
The day started with a complimentary brunch and cocktails. It continued with bridge champions Bob Hamman and Sharon Osberg partnering with Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, respectively. Table tennis champion Ariel Hsing and magician Norman Beck also entertained the crowd.
Kelley Zenchuk, a civics teacher, said getting to hear Buffett and partner Charlie Munger on Saturday at the CHI Health Center arena was a thrill. She will share some of their insights with her students.
“Warren is so calm, cool and collected,” she said. “He listens and then carefully thinks about a question before answering it. He’s just very thoughtful.”
Diane Zenchuk’s highlight is meeting people who are visiting the city. She makes a point of thanking them for coming.
“That’s the greatest thing, getting the opportunity to talk with so many people from all over the world,” she said. “They just love everything about this weekend and that’s great to see.”
