From-scratch deli to open downtown this spring

Closed for winter break

The Boiler Room Restaurant will be closed for its annual winter break from Jan. 7 through Jan. 12. The staff will take a trip to Portland, Ore., where they will visit restaurants, bartenders, winemakers and coffee roasters.

The restaurant will reopen Jan. 14. It's in the Old Market at 1110 Jones St.

M's Pub turns 40

M's Pub is celebrating 40 years in business Sunday with a free buffet featuring plays on on menu favorites.

Co-owner Ron Samuelson said the buffet will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the restaurant won't be doing regular service that day. It will be closed until the event begins.

A handful of guest bartenders who worked at M's in the past will return for one night only to create special drinks. The evening also will feature a cash bar, and at least one guest bartender will donate tips earned Sunday night to Habitat for Humanity in memory of the late Jay Bock, the restaurant's general manager who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2010.

“We just want to give back to the community that has kept us in business for 40 years,” Samuelson said. “It's a special occasion for all of us. When you look around, there aren't a lot of places that are still in business for as long as we have. We just want to say thank you.”

M's Pub is in the Old Market at 422 S. 11th St.

Restaurants have closed

Baja Grill, at 2523 S. 140th St., is closed. The restaurant served fresh food inspired by the cuisines of Mexico and California.

Also closed is the Great River Buffet, 346 N. Saddle Creek Road. The restaurant served an all-you-can-eat buffet of Chinese, Japanese, sushi and a Mongolian grill menu.
