'Pro Bono' author to speak in Lincoln

Meet Jeff McArthur, the author of “Pro Bono: The 18-year defense of Caril Ann Fugate,” during a 3 p.m. Sunday event in the Heritage Room of Nebraska Authors at the Bennett Martin Public Library in Lincoln.

Fugate (photographed above) is part of one of the most infamous cases in American history, the 1950s killing spree she went on with her boyfriend, Charles Starkweather.

McArthur grew up in Lincoln, went to film school at New York University, and then moved to Los Angeles to work in the movie industry. Fifteen years later, he returned to his roots to write a book about his grandfather, a lawyer who represented Fugate. Copies of his book will be available for purchase.
