On Saturday, the Omaha Children’s Museum will host a special Teddy Bear Clinic from 10 a.m. to noon. Kids can bring their favorite stuffed animal for an exam. While their special friends receive a full checkup, kids will learn about different medical exams and procedures. The event will include free wellness screenings for children, as well as handouts for parents. A limited number of stuffed teddy bears will be available for free for children who arrive without a stuffed animal. The event is included with a membership or regular museum admission, which is $12 for ages 2 and older, $11 for seniors and free for children under 24 months and members. Come to Fontenelle Forest Nature Center, 1111 Bellevue Blvd. North in Bellevue, to see and learn about birds of prey Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be plenty of raptor ambassadors and experts to meet. Questions and photos are encouraged. There might be a special surprise to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The program is free for members or with daily admission, which is $9.50 per adult, $8.50 per senior (age 62 and older), $7.50 for children ages 2 to 17 and free for children 1 and younger. More.

Heron Haven is offering a family education program from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Kids and families can see a slideshow of the many wild residents and visitors to Heron Haven’s wetlands by photographer Nanette Williams. The Omaha Children’s Museum’s newest exhibit, “Forever Forest,” is now open through April 15. Exploring forests through play, families will learn about sustainability, selective harvesting, transportation needs and the products we use every day that are made from trees. The exhibit includes a treetop climber, a realistic mini replica of a Union Pacific engine, a kid-sized home under construction for children to help build and more. On Friday, the Papio-Missouri River NRD will introduce children to forest animals. Programs will be held at Camp Cottonwood inside the Forever Forest exhibit at 10:45 and 11:15 a.m., and 1:45 and 2:15 p.m. They’ll also be there March 15, 16, 20 and 23. The fun is included with museum admission, which is $12 for ages 2 and older, $11 for seniors and free for children under 24 months and members. Barnes and Noble Crossroads, 7400 Dodge St., Suite 325, hosts a story time every Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. More. The Crossroads location and Barnes and Noble Oak View, 3333 Oak View Drive, host story times at 11 a.m. Saturday. Activities and coloring will follow. Local libraries host story times, too. In addition to the Omaha Public Library locations, there's also the Gretna Public Library, the Bellevue Public Library, the La Vista Public Library, the Sump Memorial Library in Papillion, the Baright Public Library in Ralston and the Plattsmouth Public Library.
Take an afternoon to go roller skating with your kids. You can laugh at each other while you fall down again and again. Check out Skate City, 1220 S. Fort Crook Road in Bellevue.
Several area organizations host craft time for children every weekend. Kids can create a free craft Saturday at Lakeshore Learning Store from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Finally, kids 3 and older can make a craft Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon with the Michaels Kids Club. Sign up online or drop in. The cost ranges from $2 to $5 per project, supplies included.
The Ralston Arena offers public ice skating for $5, with free ice skate rental. The Motto McLean Ice Arena inside Hitchcock Park near 45th and Q Streets offers Family Skate time Sunday from 4 to 6:15 p.m.
The annual Douglas County Historical Society exhibition, “Omaha City: Gateway to the West,” is currently on display at the General Crook House Museum until spring of 2018. The exhibit, located on the lower level of the General Crook House Museum, explores the early period of Omaha from the town’s founding in 1854 to becoming a more established city by the mid-1870s. The museum, 5730 N. 30th St., is open seven days a week and hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and weekends 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is a suggested donation of $6 for adults, $5 for students and $4 for children. More.
