Scuba Rangers camp

Kids ages 8 to 14 take part in DiVentures’ Scuba Rangers camp. In addition to safe diving, they learn about ocean and marine life.


Astronauts, extreme sports athletes and explorers all started as adventuresome kids. From sleeping under the stars to scuba diving to surviving zombies, these camps stretch the limits of childhood adventures.

Survivor Camp — Into the Wilderness

Tour Lauritzen Gardens one section at a time, learning about the plants and animals in each part. Games and crafts will augment learning. Then spend two days at Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium having more adventures there.

When: July 11-15 and July 25-29, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each session

Where: Mondays through Wednesdays at Lauritzen Gardens, 100 Bancroft St., and Thursdays and Fridays at the zoo, 3701 S. 10th St.

Who: Ages 5-12; 5-year-olds must have completed kindergarten

Cost: $205 for garden members, $220 for nonmembers of the garden

Survival: Zombie Apocalypse!

The zombies are coming! Will you survive? Learn how to navigate the wilderness, zombie-proof your campsite and scavenge for survival. An Army sergeant leads the drill.

When: 9 a.m. June 18 to 4 p.m. June 19

Where: Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum, Ashland, Nebraska

Who: Those entering grades 4-7

Cost: $260 plus tax for members, $300 plus tax for nonmembers

Man Camp

It’s guy time at camp. So man up to explore the woods, sleep under the stars in tree boats, play outdoor games, go swimming, sit around a campfire, hike, venture into the corn maze and do other things guys like to do.

When: 2 p.m. Aug. 1 to 11 a.m. Aug. 5

Who: Grades 3-6

Scuba Rangers

Campers acquire the knowledge and skills to be a safe diver. They master aquatic challenges while learning about the ocean and marine life. Initial training includes swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving techniques. Participants will go scuba diving in the 14-foot-deep pool.

When: June, dates and times to be announced

Where: DiVentures Scuba and Swim Center, 4303 S. 121st Plaza

Who: Ages 8-14

Cost: $278 plus cost for mask, fins and snorkel

Voyagers Camp: Water Wonders

Kids will take to a 14-acre lake with paddle boats and canoes. Campers also will learn how to fish plus play water-themed games and crafts. Also expect time devoted to lake study and wetland exploration, hiking, orienteering and a nature-athalon.

When: June 14-16, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Arrowhead Park, 29357 310th St., Neola, Iowa

Who: Youths entering fifth and sixth grades in the fall

Cost: $75

Survival 101

An Army sergeant will instruct campers in the basics of survival and how to set up camp. Then campers will test their skills by spending the night outdoors. They also will explore the wilderness around the museum.

When: 9 a.m. June 11 to 4 p.m. June 12

Who: Those entering grades 4-7
