Henry Doorly Zoo

Sylvia Colon, center, was the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium's millionth visitor of 2019.

Talk about a one-in-a-million chance.

The Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium on Saturday welcomed its millionth visitor of 2019. The honor went to Sylvia Colon of Council Bluffs, who entered the zoo at 2:18 p.m. with 3-year-old Elian.

Colon was greeted by the zoo's Animal Ambassadors and received a complimentary membership, a gift basket, ride tickets, theater tickets and a unique zoo tour.

This year's millionth visitor came eight days quicker than in 2018, when the zoo reached 2 million visitors for the third consecutive year and eclipsed the 50-million mark all time.
