Mike talks his mom into getting a job, never thinking that it might interfere with wife Molly’s life.

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” 8 p.m., NBC (New)

Fin’s former brother-in-law gets arrested for assaulting a priest prior to Christmas so Fin wants to help him by finding evidence to vindicate him. But the investigation uncovers a hidden church scandal.

“Mobbed” 8 p.m., Fox (New)

A woman shocks a friend and co-worker with a profession of love. Um, hopefully she’s got another job lined up in case she doesn’t get the answer she’s looking for. Things could be awkward.

“Nova” 8 p.m., PBS (New)

A look at the damage that could be done by three Icelandic volcanoes that may be ready to erupt. Each is larger than the Iceland volcano that caused havoc in air travel when it erupted in 2010. Scientists look at the consequences of such an eruption not just for air travel but for the global food supply and the planet’s climate.

“Modern Family” 8 p.m., ABC

A Pritchett family garage sale has Phil test driving a motorcycle and ending up in a “127 Hours” situation, while Gloria doesn’t want the contents of a mysterious trunk to be revealed.

“Chicago Fire” 9 p.m., NBC (New)

Cruz is overcome with guilt over Flaco’s death while Hermann has a hard time accepting a business deal.

“American Horror Story: Asylum” 9 p.m., FX (New)

Monsignor Howard (Joseph Fiennes) confronts the devil while Dr. Thredson (Zachary Quinto) arranges a reunion for Kit.
