Kelvis and Shanda Ross were high school sweethearts who have been together since their senior year in 1987. They now have been married for 24 years and have 3 children. Theirs is a love story about each other, family and community.
The couple enjoy being role models to young people. With so much hate and animosity in the world, they realize how important it is for younger people to have as many positive influences as possible.
Shanda said, “Just like everyone else, we are not perfect people. We have our ups and downs, but we work together to maintain our relationship. We are committed to our relationship and realize the importance of friendship in a marriage, so we are very careful in preserving our friendship. Again, we are not perfect, but we do have a great love for each other.”
As a strong Christian family, they also have a love for helping and serving others. Their careers involve helping people in special ways.
Shanda is in the health care field. “My mom, Sharon, who has been deceased for 10 years now, was my motivation for becoming a nurse. She received a kidney transplant from my brother, Mark, giving me the love and interest in transplant surgery as I saw lives being saved.”
She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s in health care administration/nursing leadership. She has experience in a variety of inpatient units as well as ambulatory settings, and is currently the manager in the Internal Medicine Specialties Clinics at the Nebraska Medical Center.
Kelvis is the business owner/graphic designer of Amazink Prints. The business creates and screen prints designs on shirts, cups, bags or anything printable. He enjoys helping others by working with customers to bring their ideas to life. He helps new clothing lines and local artists, and provides breast cancer awareness shirts.
The business is growing by word of mouth. It is supported by their church, where Shanda is a volunteer nurse; church members who have reunions; and the Apollo Track Club and Peak Performance Track Club, where their daughter was a track participant. Their alma mater, North High School, also supports them.
And it takes someone with compassionate ways like Kelvis to be there for the family who wants memorial shirts in remembrance of a loved one who had just recently departed this life.
Their jobs sometimes intersect. Kelvis has helped Shanda with the creation of team T-shirts to support transplant donor awareness, team walks and community events .
The Rosses are admired because as a couple they don’t look at their occupations as just a source of income, but as a way of helping people make their lives better.
Although Kelvis and Shanda may not realize how their story inspires others, it is heartwarming to see a couple who were sweethearts in high school keep their love and commitment alive and well for 24 years.
Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” And they are doing just that!
