A national museum group has awarded the Durham Museum a $215,000 grant for the long-term preservation of its collections.

The three-year Museums for America grant, given by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, will support the Durham’s efforts to create a comprehensive catalog of its collections and update its storage housings.

The Durham’s collection includes an estimated 40,000 artifacts, more than 1 million photographic prints and negatives and more than 8,000 rare coins.
