Anyone with an appreciation for body art will have something to admire this weekend, whether you’re an artist, an art connoisseur or a piece of artwork yourself.
The fifth annual Best in the Midwest Tattoo Convention starts today at the Mid-America Center. The three-day event features more than 200 tattoo artists, sideshow acts, vendors, a DJ and other live entertainment.
Contests will be held throughout the event, some pitting professional artists against convention attendees.
Today, the convention runs from 2 to 10 p.m. Competitions include best cover ups, lettering, traditional, Asian origin, most unique and best tattoo of the day.
On Saturday, the convention resumes from noon until 10 p.m. Best portraits, back piece, sleeves and best male and female ink competitions will be held.
The event wraps up Sunday, running from noon until 6 p.m., with best overall large, medium and small tattoos from the entire convention.
Tickets cost $20 for single-day admission and $40 for an all-weekend pass. Children 12 and younger are free.
