Professional CrossFit athlete Stacie Tovar and her husband, Dustin, are now co-owners of CrossFit Omaha, near 90th and L Streets.
The couple met with the previous owner last summer about the possible change in ownership and finalized the purchase Dec. 31.
They plan to upgrade some equipment and make cosmetic changes to the interior of the gym; those changes should be in place by the end of February, Tovar said. There are also plans to introduce nutrition challenges.
The new owners are also considering adding new CrossFit class times as well as offering gymnastics training and core and mobility classes at the facility.
Tovar, who quit her job in 2013 to CrossFit on a full-time basis, called owning CrossFit Omaha a natural next step. She also coaches at the gym 15 to 25 hours a week and writes fitness advice monthly for livewellnebraska.com.
She said she and her husband had discussed opening a new gym but decided that taking ownership of the gym they’ve called “home” for eight years was a better option.
Within two years, Tovar said they plan to open a second CrossFit Omaha location and after that, perhaps others.
“It’s going to be a lot of work, but it’s going to be worth it,” Tovar said of owning a business.
“I know that we’re ready for the challenge.”
