Elkhorn’s Addie Borgmann has won first place in the Sodexo Future Chefs competition.
The fifth-grader at Skyline Elementary in Elkhorn gained the most votes among the five finalists.
“I was really excited,” Addie said. “I thought I was going to cry because it was so exciting.”
Sodexo made the announcement to the fifth-graders at Skyline on Monday afternoon and then surprised Addie’s class with cupcakes.
Addie won at the district and national level and was one of five chosen from the final 40. Students from 256 school districts — about 2,700 kids in all — created original Mexican-inspired recipes.
Addie submitted her recipe for Skinny Mini Mexi Meatball Boats.

Addie hasn’t learned yet what the grand prize will be. She’s already won pots and pans, cooking supplies, a cookbook, a Nintendo Switch, a Fitbit watch and a Razor electric scooter.
Addie doesn’t mind waiting for the last prize. Monday was cool enough.
“All my classmates, they were clapping, they were really happy,” Addie said. “My friend told me she was going to throw a party for me, she was so happy.”
