MIAMI — A huge day from junior guard Laura Cornelius carried No. 24 Miami to an 82-68 win over the Nebraska women Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Miami Thanksgiving Classic.

Cornelius, who was averaging 6.4 points per game entering Friday, finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and six steals. The six steals were a career high, and her point total was one off a career best.

Cornelius scored 18 in the first half as the Hurricanes bolted to a 44-25 halftime lead. But the Huskers made a second-half push.

Nebraska put together a 14-2 run, capped by a Taylor Kissinger 3-pointer in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter to pull within 62-52. Miami, though, never allowed the Huskers to get any closer.

Sam Haiby led Nebraska with 14 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Hannah Whitish added 13 points. Nicea Eliely finished with 10 points and five rebounds.

Besides Cornelius, the Hurricanes got 20 points and 13 rebounds from Beatrice Mompremier. Miami outrebounded the Huskers 44-35 and NU also committed 19 turnovers.

Nebraska (1-3) looks to snap a two-game losing streak when it faces Radford on Sunday at 11 a.m.
