Road trips are pretty much old hat by now for the fifth-year senior cornerback and Husker captain. But when Nebraska visits Fresno State on Saturday night, this one will be about three hours from his home in Corona, California.

Q: What did you see Saturday from some of the younger defensive players as the game tightened, as far as composure and holding things together against McNeese State?

A: Guys held it together. Guys weren’t freaking out. Just one thing I’d like to see from guys is just a little more fire. We have a pretty laid-back group. So they weren’t freaking out, but when we’re getting into a dogfight like that, you’d just like to see a little more fire.

Q: As a captain, did you address the team or defense afterward, or on Sunday, as far as any thoughts on what happened?

A: Coach Bo said it all and Ameer (Abdullah) said what he needed to say, but it’s just, “If we just do what we’re supposed to do and coached to do, we’ll be all right.” That’s all we need to do. We don’t need some big intervention, we just need guys to just go out there and execute the way they’re coached to execute.

Q: Do you like traveling? Do you like nonconference road games like this against different opponents?

A: Obviously I love playing here, but I enjoy going on the road. You get to go some place that you’ve never been before, although I’ve been to Fresno before. But I like away games.

Q: How many family and friends plan to make the trip for Saturday night’s game?

A: I’m looking for 40 tickets right now. I know way more people want to come, but I told them they have to buy tickets.

Q: As a voice of experience, how can you help some of the younger guys with handling their first road trip?

A: Just letting them know that we’re just going to play another football game. Don’t think too much about it. Just go out there and do what you’re coached to do and you’ll be fine.

Q: What sticks with you most about the first time you played on the road?

A: It was Minnesota (in 2011). I just remember when I got in there I remember being like, “Man, don’t be the guy that gets scored on.” That’s all I could think. I played a little timid.
