Matej Kavas

Matej Kavas will be immediately eligible at Nebraska after spending four seasons at Seattle University.

LINCOLN — Nebraska secured a commitment Friday from a career 45% 3-point shooter who will be eligible immediately.

Matej Kavas, a 6-foot-8, 200-pound guard from Seattle University who officially visited Nebraska last weekend, informed coaches on Friday he’ll be joining the program. He’ll have one season of eligibility left.

The Slovenian graduate transfer scored 10.3 points per game this season and shot 45.8% from 3-point range, which ranked him seventh in the country. He shot 3% better from beyond the arc than any Big Ten player this season. Kavas made 44 of 96 3-pointers and had a season-high of 26 points against UNO. He made 6 of 9 3-pointers that night.

The commitment gives Nebraska two graduate transfers for next season’s team. Haanif Cheatham, a 6-foot-5 transfer from Florida Gulf Coast, committed during his official visit last weekend.

Fred Hoiberg now has three scholarship spots left, four if Isaiah Roby doesn’t return after declaring for the NBA draft.

Nebraska is hosting five visitors this weekend, four of whom are immediately eligible.
