It appears that Husker students are more eager than usual to have a spot in Memorial Stadium this football season.

Student season football tickets sold out about a month earlier than they have in past years. Typically the tickets are sold out by the time school starts, said Brandon Meier, NU’s senior associate athletic director for marketing and multimedia. This summer, all 6,500 tickets were spoken for in late July.

A few days after the sellout, the wait list for student tickets was up to about 100. So officials decided to give students an alternative.

Students have the chance to buy a four-game mini-plan. The plans include up to two tickets for four home games.

Plans include tickets to South Alabama and Wisconsin or South Alabama and Northwestern. Purchasers can then choose two other games from Northern Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.

Ohio State did not return any tickets, Meier said.

Tickets in the plans are returns from visiting teams, Meier said, so the seats are not in the Nebraska student section. Meier said tickets allotted for visiting teams that are returned are not figured into the Huskers' sellout streak of 368 games.

“We want as many students involved as we can,” Meier said.
