Nebraska is 3-4 against Iowa since it joined the Big Ten in 2011.

A prolonged rivalry with Michigan and a return to Black Friday tradition against Iowa are two highlights for Nebraska as the Big Ten unveiled its conference football schedules for 2022 through 2025 Wednesday.

For the Huskers, the slates also include a pair of league road games to open seasons — Minnesota on Sept. 2, 2023, and Illinois on Aug. 30, 2025. The 2023 schedule, with a nonconference game at Colorado set for the second week, marks the first road opener for the Huskers since 1999, and first time the program plays two away contests to start a campaign since 1995.

Nebraska and Michigan will strengthen their acquaintance with each other into the next decade after the five-year hiatus ends in September. Two of college football’s winningest programs meet again every year from 2021 through at least 2025, though The Athletic reported the protected crossover game will continue through 2027. The schools will meet at Memorial Stadium in 2021, 2023 and 2025.

The Huskers also will conclude their regular seasons against Iowa well into the future. The teams have played on Black Friday since Nebraska joined the league in 2011 and will do so in 2018 and 2019. NU plays Minnesota on those dates in 2020 and 2021.

On paper, the 2024 schedule stands out as particularly brutal. The crossover games are at Michigan, against Ohio State and at Penn State — all in October. That slate also includes away games opposite Northwestern, Wisconsin and Iowa.

Crossover opponents in other years appear more manageable: at Rutgers, Indiana and at Michigan in 2022; Michigan, Maryland and at Michigan State in 2023 and Michigan, at Indiana, Rutgers in 2025.

Along with Nebraska-Michigan, the Big Ten’s other protected crossovers from 2022-27 are Wisconsin-Ohio State, Iowa-Rutgers, Minnesota-Michigan State, Northwestern-Maryland and Illinois-Penn State.

Below are the Huskers' known schedules for 2022-25, though some future dates remain to be determined:
