Here's a transcript of today's show:
I'm back, back in black. Welcome to the Carriker Chronicles, the people's show where we check the pulse of Husker Nation brought to you by Nebraska Spine Hospital.
And as usual at this time of day, I just got done working out. Smell that fresh air ladies and gentlemen. But the Huskers just announced their game alternate jerseys for this season will be Blackshirt themed.
Now, if you've watched my show before, which I hope you have. If you haven't, then check them out. I'm not a fan of alternate jerseys.
We didn't do it in the past. I'm a big fan of tradition. I don't like to try to fit in with the other supposed cool kids in school, but I love the idea of Blackshirt alternate jerseys because this is unlike any other wannabe cool kid at school.
Nobody else has this great tradition. So if we're going to do alternate unis, fine. Make them blackshirt themed. I freaking love that. I think it's awesome.
It's a unique special tradition unlike any other, not just team in college football, but any other team in any other sport — whether it be college, high school or pro.
So I'm a big fan of this. I'm excited. I want to see everybody in the stands that day in black. I want to see everybody in the stands throwing the bones.
Now, it's interesting because I'm coaching a 9-U football team this year, and it just so literally happens that we're handing out Blackshirts to my little guys tonight.
All right, on the back it says, “Blackshirt strong.” And on the front, it says, “Be a leader.”
All right, so we just actually scrimmaged. We're a 9-U team. We literally just scrimmaged the 10-U defending state champs on Thursday, and we hung right in there with them until the very end. But the reason I bring that up is because my whole team was throwing the bones.
Ladies and gentlemen, I love the tradition, the uniqueness of the Blackshirts, of the throwing the bones, of everything about it.
There truly is no place like Nebraska, and there is truly no tradition like the Blackshirts. So while alternate unis are so-so. You know some people agree. Some people disagree. I love the idea of making them Blackshirt theme.
Again, let's get everyone in the stadium. Let's make it a blackout that day. Let's get everyone in the stadium — young, middle age and old age. I say that with all due respect. Everybody throwing the bones.
All right Husker Nation, the Carriker Chronicles will be back next week, getting ready for the Husker's first game. And then we'll be back with our gut reaction after that to the Huskers' first game, and every Monday through Friday and Saturday with a gut reaction to every Huskers’ game after that.
Go Big Red, and always remember to throw the bones!
