LINCOLN — No. 3-ranked North Carolina State improved to 21-0 in duals this season as the Wolfpack edged No. 11 Nebraska 19-15 Saturday night at the Devaney Center.
Both teams won five matches, but the Wolfpack were able to earn two bonus-point victories.
Two-time defending national champion Nick Gwiazdowski got an injury default win when NU heavyweight Collin Jensen was hurt in the opening minute of their match. Then, with the dual tied 12-12 with three matches left, Tommy Gantt scored seven points in the third period for an 11-3 major decision over Tyler Berger at 157. The Wolfpack won the next match to secure the dual win.
Nebraska got two wins over ranked opponents. At 184, TJ Dudley controlled the second period on his way to an 11-6 win over No. 18 Pete Renda. At 197 Aaron Studebaker got a takedown as time expired to pull out a 4-3 win over No. 15 Michael Boykin.
Also on Saturday, it was announced that Nebraska has been selected as a host for the NWCA Division I National Championship duals series. The series features eight Big Ten teams hosting eight non-Big Ten teams. The Huskers’ dual will be Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Devaney Center, with the opponent to be determined on Feb. 14.
Nebraska finishes its regular-season dual season on Friday at home against Northwestern.
