Tom's Takes: Drew Brown left inconsolable; Noah Fant proves Nebraska wrong

Noah Fant had three catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns Friday against Nebraska.

Three quick takes by World-Herald columnist Tom Shatel following Nebraska's 56-14 loss to Iowa:

* * *

1. If you’re the L.A Chargers with no kicker, you fake a field goal. If you have Drew Brown and it’s Senior Day, not so much. If you say the final game circumstances called for caution to the wind, why not go for fourth-and-1 in the third quarter? After the game, Brown was almost inconsolable as he walked off the field. Brown is a gamer, one of the bright lights of the last few seasons. Would have been nice to see him get a field goal in his last home game.

2. How in the wide world of sports did Noah Fant not end up in Nebraska red and white? The next coach absolutely cannot let local kids of this caliber leave the state. Is there anyone in Calibraska as good as Fant? Can’t imagine it.

3. In-game awareness also applies to the folks running the big board at Memorial Stadium. After Iowa went up 35-14 in the third quarter, the home fans were treated to Husker Karaoke, with players singing a Beyonce number. The only ones dancing were in black and gold.
