Barrett Ruud

Nebraska inside linebackers coach Barrett Ruud has lined up a slew of linebackers interested in NU.

Nebraska's in the mix for another highly-rated linebacker.

Port Orange (Florida) Atlantic High School's Tyler Berrong announced on Twitter Sunday night he'd set a commitment date for Sept. 16. He'll select between a top five of West Virginia, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Purdue and Nebraska.

The Huskers want Berrong — 6-foot-2, 220 pounds — as an inside linebacker.

Nebraska's inside linebacker depth remains thin after the departure of three last season — Willie Hampton, Andrew Ward and Avery Roberts. The Huskers have three true freshman who project to inside linebacker — Nick Henrich, Jackson Hannah and Garrett Snodgrass — but three upperclassmen, Mohamed Barry, Collin Miller and Will Honas, will all matriculate out of the program by the 2021 season.

So inside linebackers coach Barrett Ruud has been on the hunt for guys in the 2020 recruiting class.

Already, Nebraska has hosted New Jersey star Cody Simon. The Huskers plan to host Atlanta-area inside linebacker Choe Bryant-Strother and Chandler (Arizona) 'backer Malik Reed for its June 21 barbecue. Nashville-area linebacker Devyn Curtis has NU in the mix, too.

Rated a four-star prospect by 247 Sports and a high three-star prospect by ESPN and Rivals, Berrong said he wants to visit Nebraska before his Sept. 16 decision. The most likely date for that visit would be the Sept. 14 game against Northern Illinois, which is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
