The World-Herald is counting down the top 50 Nebraska players you need to know heading into the 2017 season.

Mick Stoltenberg

6-5 | 305 | Junior | NT

Stoltenberg showed up for spring practice with nearly 20 additional pounds of muscle in preparation for his new role as the starting nose tackle on Nebraska’s three-man front. And his positive impressions that first day were just the beginning as he settled in and stood out at his new position. He’s often been tasked with filling running lanes and absorbing double teams.

The junior from Gretna is coming off a 2016 campaign in which he played 12 games — making nine starts at defensive tackle in NU’s old 4-3 formation — while landing 25 tackles (1.5 sacks). His effectiveness and health will be worth watching at a relatively thin nose position this fall.
