The World-Herald is counting down the top 50 Nebraska players you need to know heading into the 2017 season.

JD Spielman

5-9  |  180  |  Redshirt freshman  |  ATH

Spielman ostensibly will be a slot receiver for the Huskers, but he’s capable of many things. He can be a jet sweep guy. He could even run the ball out of the backfield — he was, among other things in high school, an accomplished running back.

The best prep player in Minnesota in 2015, Spielman came to Nebraska and redshirted — in hindsight, maybe he should have played — and should help the Huskers in several ways. He’s shoe-leather tough and can catch the ball in a tight space.
