Defensive lineman Carlos Davis and Nebraska won a thriller over Oregon in Lincoln last September.

The World-Herald is counting down the top 50 Nebraska players you need to know heading into the 2017 season.

Voted the Huskers’ most improved player after the 2016 season, Davis gets the chance to take a bigger — and more important — step with a starting job at defensive end in the new three-man front. He’s a wrecking ball with a strong base and good explosion, and he has the tools to be effective both rushing the passer and playing the run.

Davis’ redshirt freshman year included two sacks among his 24 tackles, including many instances of driving his man backwards. With no seniors up front, Davis will have to grow up fast and be ready for whatever comes. Twin brother Khalil also figures heavily into Nebraska’s plans as Mick Stoltenberg’s backup at nose tackle.
