HEARD: “I love this team. I think the focus has been good. I think leadership is good. They rev it up well. I feel really good. I like this team a lot. I like the personality. All those parts look good,” Riley said on the team's mental makeup.

HEARD "This is where the men play!" Riley said talking up his No. 1 kickoff coverage unit.

SEEN: Just one offensive player — fullback Graham Nabity — on kickoff coverage. The rest were defenders, including true freshman JoJo Domann.

SEEN: In a morning practice where NU players weren't wearing helmets, some kick and punt returners wore hats to shield the sun as they caught punts.

SEEN: Lots of different guys — including true freshmen J.D. Spielman and Tre Bryant — working on returning kickoffs for the Huskers.

SEEN: Lengthy walk-through sessions, including one in which defenders worked on blitz packages.
