For some reason, the 45-minute drive between Omaha and Lincoln often feels much, much longer.

As much as regular citizens tend to keep things between the capital and River City separate, it goes double for musicians. There’s some intermingling for those souls brave enough to traverse from one of Nebraska’s big cities to the other to perform, but music scenes in the two cities remain largely separate.

I can’t explain it.

In Chicago, a 45-minute drive would barely get you from one suburb to another. But that short expanse of Interstate 80 is apparently an eternity for those hauling guitars and other gear.

A lot of Omahans don’t know Lincoln’s music scene all that well, but you no longer have an excuse. Lincoln is giving you a chance to get to know its best bands with the annual Lincoln Exposed music festival.

The festival will feature 75 bands playing at four Lincoln venues — Duffy’s Tavern, the Zoo Bar, Bourbon Theatre and Bodega’s Alley — from Wednesday through Feb. 13. (The Bourbon has a separate event on Feb. 13.)

All-access tickets are only $20.
