Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba in "L.A.'s Finest."

Omaha-born actress Gabrielle Union is reprising the role of her “Bad Boys II” character Syd Burnett for the spin-off cop series “L.A.’s Finest,” which just dropped its first trailer.

In the show, Syd has left the DEA for the LAPD, where she’s been paired up with a new partner, Nancy McKenna (Jessica Alba). In typical buddy-cop fashion, the two don’t like each other at first but promptly become best friends for life.

Executive-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the show looks very much like a gender-flipped version of “Bad Boys,” with an agreeable mix of comedy and high-octane action.

Union got a fairly high-profile role with last year’s home-invasion thriller “Breaking In.” This will be her first starring role in a TV series since “Being Mary Jane,” which will end with a two-hour movie finale in April.

“L.A.’s Finest” is the first original series for the cable company Spectrum. It will premiere May 13 on Spectrum TV. The first three episodes will be released for free and without ads.
