Cheer on the Broncos/Panthers at area bars

Celebrate the Super Bowl at any number of Omaha bars and restaurants this weekend.

Brewsky’s, with six locations in Omaha and Lincoln, will have door prizes and specials on Sunday. Customers who buy their first pitcher of beer at regular price will get their second pitcher for a penny. There will also be Fireball shots and burger specials.

California Bar, 510 N. 33rd St., invites customers for football and a pot luck dinner on Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. The person to predict the score of the game will win a prize.

Crossbones Bar, 5611 S. 36th St., has a free chili cook-off beginning at 3 p.m. Votes will be counted at 5 p.m. The cook of the best chili will win $50.

The Den, 711 N. 114th St., hosts its fourth annual Super Bowl party and chili cook-off. Those who wish to enter chili must arrive at the cook-off by 2:30 p.m. The top three competitors will win prizes. DJ Shif-D will play at the conclusion of the game.

Dr. Jack’s Drinkery, 3912 N. 102nd St., hosts a chili cook-off with prizes for first and second place. The 4:30 p.m. event will also feature shot specials.

Nifty Bar, 4721 Northwest Radial, bucks the chili tradition and hosts a soup cook-off instead, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Enter a soup for $5, and judges will pick the best. Soup must arrive by 4:30 p.m.

O’Leaver’s Pub, 1322 S. Saddle Creek Road, hosts a Super Bowl watch party with chili dogs beginning at 5 p.m.

Reverb Lounge, 6121 Military Ave., will show the game live on its projector. The event will have free snacks.

The Session Room, 1506 Mike Fahey St., will offer Coors Light and 20 pizzas until they are gone beginning at 4 p.m.

Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St., will show the big game live on a 20-foot screen. The 4:30 p.m. event will feature free food and drink specials.

Beer Week goldfish race

Omaha Beer Week is rapidly approaching, and with it comes sign-ups for some of the week’s events.

Nifty Bar and Infusion Brewing Company will sponsor the week’s first goldfish races on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Nifty, 4721 Northwest Radial. The first place finisher will snag a bag with T-shirts, koozies, gift cards and more donated by the sponsoring bars.

The race is $6. Advanced registration is required by Feb. 12. To register, call Toni at the Nifty at 402-452-1137. The fee includes two beers and a goldfish.

‘Go West’ for Valentine’s

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your sweetie at the Joslyn Art Museum.

The Feb. 13 event is inspired by the museum’s “Go West!” exhibit and will include elements from Western romance novels and film. Attendees are encouraged to dress in character. Omaha Guitar Trio will also perform.

The 6:30 p.m. event is $50 for Joslyn members, $60 for the general public. Admission price includes an exhibition ticket, dinner and one free drink ticket. Reservations are required by Saturday and can be made at or 402-661-3862.

A Berry sweet Valentine

Bellevue Berry Farm in Papillion will host a Valentine Shindig.

The event will feature dinner and a dance with music by Polka Police.

Advance registration is $25. The event will be held 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 14.
