At 7 p.m. Sunday, Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater will screen the 1988 Tom Waits concert film “Big Time.”
Since the film was never released on digital media and has no known 35mm prints remaining, Film Streams will play the film the only way it can: on VHS.
“‘Big Time’ will in fact be the first VHS presentation in Film Streams history,” said Patrick Kinney, the nonprofit’s communications director and a real devotee of the VHS medium. “It’s no exaggeration to say that I’ve dreamed of hooking up my tape player to our projector ever since I started working for the organization in 2013. I’m so thrilled that a VHS screening is happening under my watch, and that it’s for such an exciting film.”
