Violinist, fiber artist to perform at UNO event

The University of Nebraska at Omaha Friends of Art presents its latest “Masters and Music” event at 5 p.m. Sunday, pairing violinist Dr. Mary Perkinson with fiber artist Shea Wilkinson. Cost for the hour-long presentation and performance is $20 for the general public. UNO students can attend for free with their school ID.

Exhibit showcases artists supported by Darger HQ

A nonprofit devoted to creating opportunities for Nebraska artists will show off a bunch of those artists this weekend.

Darger HQ will kick off a group exhibition, “Flatlanders,” with a reception from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at 1716 S. 13th St. The show will feature work by artists Kenny Adkins, Jennifer Bockelman, Kim Darling, Charley Friedman, Nancy Friedemann-Sanchez, Camille Hawbaker, Anthony Hawley, Qwist Joseph, Michael Ian Larsen, Craig Roper, Sarah Rowe, Luke Severson, Matthew Sontheimer, Steve Snell, Sheila Talbitzer and Ying Zhu.

The show, which runs through Feb. 14, also serves as a celebration for the Darger HQ’s “Art Files of the Flatlanders” project, a new online publication dedicated to the visual arts in Nebraska.

Kaneko hosts works-in-progress reading series, workshop

“Feedback,” Kaneko’s reading series featuring writers reciting works in progress, resumes at 7 p.m. tonight featuring poet Gustavo Adolfo Aybar and essayist Dr. Tammie Kennedy. The event at 1111 Jones St. is free and open to the public.

The writers also will host a follow-up workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $20 general admission or $15 for Kaneko members. Due to space limitations for the writers workshop, registration is encouraged at thekaneko.org.

Hotel displays works by six artist-in-residence finalists

The Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel is the site of a new gallery now featuring work by six Nebraska artists. Each of the artists on display is a finalist for the hotel’s first artist-in-residence. Gallery attendees are encouraged to vote for their favorite artists through Jan. 25. The winner will be announced Feb. 1 and begin a year-long residency in April.

The hotel is located 333 S. 13th St. in Lincoln.
