A new craft cocktail bar is headed to west Omaha, courtesy of the owner of The Berry & Rye, Wicked Rabbit and Laka Lono Rum Club.
Ethan Bondelid plans to open a to-be-named basement-level cocktail spot off 170th Street and West Center Road; the bar will be located below the third location of Jams American Grill, planned to open late spring in the former Upstream location.
Bondelid said the new bar will not be a second location of Wicked Rabbit, his downtown spot off 15th and Harney Streets that has a camouflaged entrance and no sign to speak of. Bondelid, who is also involved in Monarch Prime, the restaurant inside Hotel Deco, said the new space will be a "continuation of the brand," of both Monarch and Wicked Rabbit, which are plays off "Alice in Wonderland's" Red Queen.
Bondelid also is involved in Laka Lono, the Old Market tiki-themed spot, and Via Farina.
The new west Omaha spot should open in May, he said. He has wanted to open a cocktail bar in west Omaha for several years, he said, but until now, had not found the right location.
"I know who goes to our bars, and they come from west Omaha," he said. "I think the need is there."
He said the menu is still in the works, but it will likely be a mix of craft cocktails and original drinks. There are no plans to serve food.
