Joseph Morales stars as Alexander Hamilton in the national touring production of “Hamilton,” which will be in Omaha at the Orpheum Theater from Sept. 10-29, 2019.

If you’ve been wanting to star in the hip-hop musical “Hamilton,” this may be the next best thing.

Omaha Performing Arts is sponsoring “Hamiltunes: An American Singalong” on July 22 in anticipation of the musical, which arrives in Omaha on Sept. 10. The free karaoke event for all ages will be at the Orpheum Theater.

People who want to participate can register to lead a song by themselves or with a group of up to four friends. Tickets aren’t required, but everyone who wants to attend must register at omahaperformingarts.org. The deadline is July 12.

Because of time constraints, participants will be chosen at random.

“Hamilton” tells the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton, who was George Washington’s assistant during the Revolutionary War. An immigrant from the West Indies, he became the nation’s first secretary of the Treasury.

The musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda mixes hip-hop, jazz, rhythm and blues and Broadway-style tunes. Single tickets for the Omaha engagement go on sale at ticketomaha.com later this summer.
