UNO can't overcome fast start by Eagles

TULSA, Okla. — Oral Roberts scored the game's first 10 points and maintained a lead the rest of the way in a 67-58 win over the UNO women Thursday night.

Oral Roberts led 10-0 four minutes into the game and 16-3 midway through the first quarter. But that would be ORU's biggest lead as UNO's deficit stayed between three and 13.

The Mavs trailed 30-17 midway through the second quarter before finishing the half on a 10-3 run. Caroline Hogue, who led UNO with 25 points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots, had seven points during that run.

Hogue also scored UNO's first eight points of the second half as the Mavs got within 43-40 with three minutes left in the third quarter.

After Oral Roberts built the lead to 10 early in the fourth, the Mavs were within 56-52 with three minutes left after an Abi Lujan layup. But that's as close as the Mavs got down the stretch as ORU secured the win by hitting 6 of 8 free throws in the final 47 seconds.

Besides Hogue's huge night, Mikaela Shaw added 13 points and Remy Davenport 12 for the Mavs, who fell to 13-14 on the season and 6-9 in Summit League play.

Faith Ihim led four Oral Roberts players in double figures with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
