NO LUCK IN WAHOO
Columbus Scotus won 18 in a row before two trips to Wahoo — and losses to now-C-1 No. 1 Wahoo Neumann and No. 10 Wahoo High. The Class C-1 No. 2 Shamrocks meet No. 3 Adams Central on Saturday in Grand Island.
UNRANKED AT 20-1
North Bend, we know you exist. And congratulations, too, for beating Howells-Dodge on Thursday for a school-record 20th win. But it's been your schedule, with only one win against a team in your class, that keeps you out of the Class C-1 rankings. Your chance to step up comes next.
HOW STRONG IS CENTRAL-PREP?
This isn't totally hoops-centric, but some alums from both sides supposedly are upset that Creighton Prep won't meet Omaha Central in football in 2016 or 2017. If this rivalry is so strong, why were there fewer than 1,000 fans for the schools' basketball game last month at Prep?
This will be the final weekend of play before Class A district pairings will be released Tuesday. Teams will seek to finish in the top seven in NSAA wild-card points, thereby guaranteeing they'll play at home in districts.
BATTLE OF ELKHORN
Class B No. 6 Elkhorn High will get another crack at No. 2 Elkhorn South when the schools play again Thursday. The Storm won the first matchup by nine points Jan. 28 in the Eastern Midlands Conference tourney, but don't sell the Antlers short.
IT'S THAT TIME
Subdistricts begin next week for Classes C and D, and two teams — C-1 Pierce and C-2 Crofton — take the spotlight. The Bluejays are seeking their fourth consecutive state title, while the Warriors are after their fifth championship in a row.
