The Iowa High School Athletic Association on Wednesday ended the suspense for its small-school boys basketball programs.
The Class 1-A and 2-A district and substate trails were laid out for all, setting the stage to determine the eight substate champions in both classes who will go on to play in the state tournament from March 7 to 12 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
District assignments were announced on Jan. 11. Pairings were determined based on regular-season win-loss records in games one through 15 or through Jan. 30. The top two seeds in each district were placed in opposite brackets. The IHSAA said it would make every effort to use "true seeding'' to fill in the rest of the seeds.
In the first three rounds in 1-A and the first two rounds in 2-A, district doubleheaders are commonplace. District play begins on Feb. 15 in both classes.
For 3-A and 4-A boys basketball teams, postseason assignments have been made and the pairings will be announced next week.
