DES MOINES — Red Oak junior Alexa Gilleland finished third Monday in the individual girls portion of the Class 1-A state bowling meet at Plaza Lanes.

Gilleland rolled games of 200 and 235. Her total of 435 was 25 pins behind sophomore winner Macy Ross of Charles City (460).

The Red Oak girls placed fifth in the seven-team field with 2,313 pins. Camanche won with 2,785.

On the boys' side, Shenandoah senior Chase Hiser finished fifth individually. Hiser rolled games of 226 and 212. His total of 438 was 75 pins behind winner Nick Stein of Vinton-Shellsburg (246267—513).

Vinton-Shellsburg (3,141) also won the team title, and Shenandoah (2,744) was sixth in the seven-team field.
