Community interviews will take place next week for two of the Omaha Public Schools' open principal positions.

Parents, staff and students are invited to meet and ask questions of the two principal finalists at Burke High and Wakonda Elementary.

Burke Principal Deb Frison is retiring, as is Wakonda Principal Aaron Dailey.

OPS is applying for a federal turnaround grant at Wakonda to help the struggling school. The grant would require Dailey and half the school's staff to be replaced and probably would result in an extended day and extended year at the school.

OPS officials say they searched extensively to find high-quality principal candidates for both schools.

Community members may submit questions to be asked at the forums by emailing district spokesman Todd Andrews at or calling (402) 557-2070. Questions must be received by 5 p.m. at least one business day before the interview.

No questions will be taken from the floor at the meetings.

The Burke forum will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the school, 12200 Burke Blvd. Wakonda's will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the school, 4845 Curtis Ave.
