"Spectral," a movie co-written by Omaha native Ian Fried, is now being filmed in Budapest, Hungary. Universal and Legendary Pictures have set a release date for the 3-D supernatural thriller of Aug. 12, 2016.

"Spectral" is one of four Fried scripts that he told The World-Herald last December were in various stages of development. He said at that time that "Spectral" was the hardest to make and most expensive of the four.

"Spectral" is about an elite special ops team on the trail of a phantom threat that can't be explained. James Badge Dale, Emily Mortimer, Max Martini and Bruce Greenwood lead the cast.

This is director Nic Mathieu's first feature. George Nolfi and John Gatins share the writing credit with Fried, 28, who is a 2004 graduate of Westside High School. His parents are Jim and Lindy Fried of Omaha.
