CAPITALS 3, FLYERS 2: Alex Ovechkin became the third player in NHL history to reach 30 goals in his first 11 seasons, and Braden Holtby made 33 saves for Washington. Ovechkin joined Wayne Gretzky and Mike Gartner in the record books. Dmitry Orlov and Matt Niskanen also scored for Washington.

CANADIENS 2, HURRICANES 1, SO: Sven Andrighetto was the only player to score in a five-round shootout, leading Montreal. Ben Scrivens stopped all five Carolina shooters, including Eric Staal on the final attempt, to secure the win.

ISLANDERS 8, OILERS 1: Kyle Okposo scored a hat trick after New York opened a commanding early lead with three first-period goals. Thomas Greiss made 30 saves for the Islanders, who moved within three points of the Rangers for second place in the Metropolitan Division.
