Fontenelle Forest is planning to perform a prescribed burn as part of its ongoing oak woodland restoration.

The burn is scheduled for Monday. But if conditions change, it may be rescheduled for safety and air quality reasons.

A small amount of smoke may be visible during the burn, but park officials stressed that this is normal. Fire crews will monitor the blaze throughout the process.

The park held town hall meetings about the prescribed burn last fall. It is being done to clear away overgrown parts of the forest with the hope of restoring and enhancing native species in the prairie.

During the burn, affected trails will be closed. Contact Fontenelle Forest for more information.
