1 Learn about steam engines and science
Come to the union Pacific railroad Museum on Friday for its monthly Family Night at the Museum event. Come explore and learn about steam engines and science. The event will include games with Spielbound, a Storytime with the Council Bluffs Public library, electric bicycles and a chance to win free passes to railroad days, which will take place July 13 and 14. The fun goes from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
2 Build a tow truck
On Saturday, kids are welcome to build a tow truck with an operational boom for free at one of several home depot stores from 9 a.m. to noon. Once the project is complete, kids can paint their project to personalize it. all kids get to keep their project and will receive a free certificate of achievement, a workshop apron and a commemorative pin, while supplies last. The workshop is for kids ages 5 to 12.
3 Watch some fireworks
Come to Werner Park, 12356 Ballpark Way in Papillion, on Thursday and Friday for Independence day fireworks. The show will be more than 20 minutes long, and viewers can tune in to star 104.5 FM to listen to accompanying music. The fireworks will take place after the baseball games, which take place at 7:05 p.m. both days. Tickets start at $8.
4 Watch a movie while floating in a pool
See "The little Mermaid" during Fun-Plex dive-In Movies on Friday at Fun-Plex, 7003 Q St. Float around in the wave pool or just pull up a lounger on the pool deck and enjoy a movie under the stars. Cost is $10 for regular admission and $7 for kids 12 and younger. doors will open at 8:45 p.m. The movie will begin at approximately 9 p.m. This is an all-ages event.
5 Participate in a baseball scavenger hunt
Boys Town Nebraska will host a baseball scavenger hunt through Aug. 1 at the Boys Town hall of history Museum, 14057 Flanagan Blvd. Kids can come have fun hunting for clues and learning about Boys Town's history along the way. after completing the hunt, visit the Boys Town Visitor Center for a special surprise. The hall of history Museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
6 Meet Spider-Man
Kids can meet the web-slinging avenger on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at learn Express of Omaha, 120 regency Parkway. Bring your camera for a Spidey Selfie and show him your best superhero moves.
7 Have fun at a kids jamboree
Nebraska Crossing Outlets, 21209 Nebraska Crossing drive in Gretna, will host a free Kids Jamboree on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fun will include face painting, balloon twisting, magician tricks, stilt walkers and treats from Rita's Italian Ice.
